This pink dress, picked up for 99cents at the Thrift Outlet was easily transformed into a Princess Dress with puff sleeves – my most functional (and pretty) sleeves added so far.
The dress needed to be resized slightly so I seam ripped the shoulder straps and resewed them slightly shorter.
I found a puff sleeve pattern online and cut sleeves out of a matching pink satin and sparkly tulle.
I first sewed a gather stitch along the satin layer.
Then pulled the threads to gather the sleeve.
Same process was repeated for the tulle layer, sewed gather stitch and gathered the sleeve.
I then assembled the two layers of sleeve one on top of the other and pinned in place.
I sewed the sparkly tulle layer onto the satin layer.
I then hand stitched a hem onto the edge, as well as hand stitched the sleeve into the arm hole of the dress.
I also raised the neckline slightly by sewing in a strip – the satin is a little shinier than the original and adds a touch of elegance to the neckline. #ModestPrincess refashion complete!
