Lace tops are gorgeous- and are almost always partially lined making them only partially modest. I am sure some shirts out there are completely lined but this one did not have the top half lined making shoulders (and bra straps) visible through the lace. Originally this shirt was worn with an undershirt but it gets hot wearing two tops so we set out to fix this using a teal shirt that had already been cut to be used as an undershirt.
First the shirt needed the neckline raised just slightly so the scoop wasn’t so low and would avoid any accidental cleavage showing. To fix this, we seam ripped the shoulders.
And re-sewed the shoulder seam, at first it made the sleeve awkward so we continued the seam down the center of the sleeve and that made the shirt lie correctly once again.
Next we created pattern pieces for the lining we were going to add by turning the shirt inside out and tracing each part then adding seam allowance.
We drew these pattern pieces onto the t-shirt and cut them out.
We then pinned and sewed the lining pieces together, separate from the lace shirt.
This is the finished lining, with seams on the outside because this will be going inside the lace shirt.
We then hand stitched the lining into the lace of the shirt, and once sewn in place we cut down the center back for the keyhole opening in back and stitched the lining down around the lace keyhole.
Here is the finished shirt, inside out to show the lining and now completely modest top!
So, what do you think ?
