Another too short dress, another easy lengthen. Easy choice here of white to lengthen and the best part is I had a piece leftover from a lining of a different refashion which worked perfectly and I didn’t even have to sew the hem, I used the existing rolled hem.
The dress had a ridiculously large hem allowance, which I seam ripped and gave us an extra inch plus reduced bulk.
I cut a 5 1/2″ strip from a leftover piece of lining – with a rolled hem that can be reused!
The fabric was exactly the same width as the dress so I sewed the smallest seam possible and did it before attaching it to the dress. If not the fabric might have moved sightly and I might not have had enough to join the two ends together.
All that’s left is to pin the extra band and sew it onto the dress.
Voilà! A modest dress – and in my opinion it looks better with the white on the bottom seeing as the color and sleeves already have white bands!
So, what do you think ?
