Scoop Neck to Crew Neck

Sometimes you only need a small alteration to make it modest and this can be frustrating when you are shopping. For me one problem lies with scoop neck tees and I’m so excited that I’ve now found a quick and easy fix for these! Especially as I just picked up these three gorgeous color t-shirts at a resale store.

Scoop Neck T-shirts

Scoop necks are always too low for me, I think because my shoulders are so narrow. I live in Texas and so layering is not an option – just too hot. So I’m going to thread elastic through the necklines and bring the necklines up eliminating any cleavage problems.

Snips to enter Casing

I would have preferred to seam rip at a seam of the neckline so as to gain entrance to the neckline casing, but there was no such seam and so I had to snip two tiny holes at the edges of the neckline casing seam which was serged at one of the shoulder seams.

Thread Elastic using a Safety Pin

I secured the round elastic cord on a safety pin.

Thread Elastic through Casing

and threaded the safety pin through the neckline casing.

Adjust the elastic in the casing

After trying on the shirt and adjusting the neckline to the desired height and of course bending over in front of the mirror to make sure I no longer had any cleavage issues I adjusted the length of elastic.

Tie Elastic

I trimmed the elastic and tied it off.

Sew up the Snips

I slipped the knot back inside the neckline casing and stitched the small opening closed, that’s it!

Scoop Neck vs Crew Neck

The difference may seem small but it is significant and I now have a crew neck with no danger of showing cleavage when I bend over!

So, what do you think ?
